  • The Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program (PROP) that provides equipment and a wide range of supports to people who use ventilators and other respiratory equipment.

  • The Technology for Independent Living Program (TIL) that provides technology to assist with communication and with managing devices in the home.

Our Vision

BCITS is committed to enabling people with severe disabilities, who need assistive technologies, respiratory services and supports, to meet their needs while living in the community. It is guided by the people that it serves around the province of British Columbia and informed by the best knowledge and information possible from professionals and community organizations. The program provides a comprehensive range of equipment and supplies, respiratory therapy, biomedical engineering and peer support within a community-based environment that is responsive and respectful of their individual needs and goals.

Values

  • People who use assistive technologies have a right to self-determination.
  • All BCITS programs should be accessible, equitable and fair to everyone that it serves.
  • People who use the BCITS Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program have a right to funding security in the provision of respiratory equipment and supplies.
  • All individuals who are clients of BCITS have the right to express their needs, to voice their concerns and to articulate their goals in a climate of personal safety.
  • Individuals who are clients of BCITS have the capacity to learn and to develop the skill and knowledge to manage their own respiratory and assistive technology needs.

Principles

  • All of the policies and procedures of BCITS programs are developed and administered so that they are transparent to everyone.
  • BCITS programs are accountable to the people that they serve.
  • All members of the program staff work collaboratively and strive for excellence in their practice areas and in the program as a whole.
  • The program enables people to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to manage their own respiratory and other assistive technology needs.
  • Family members and personal attendants will receive the training and education that they need in order to provide the best possible assistance to the individuals they support.
  • The program fosters mutual aid and support through peer mentoring, consumer testing and consumer led education.
  • Personal choice is promoted in all the program services.
  • The program ensures equal access and quality to everyone that it serves.
  • Continuous evaluation of health and social outcomes, clinical and technical performance is undertaken, assessed and integrated into the program.
  • The programs report to the BCITS board of directors and seeks their guidance in upholding the mission, values and principles and in meeting the goals of the program.
